First Century Christianity
First Century Christianity
Hi, I’m Chris DeWeese. This site is a compilation of things I have learned (and continue to learn) in my walk with Jesus Christ (or Yeshua Hamashiach if you prefer). I started this journey shortly after marrying my wife and discovering the churches in which we had both been raised in were at odds with each other. After my wife challenged me to find some things in the scriptures like, for instance, why to keep Sunday holy instead of the Sabbath, I read the Bible for the first time. Not only did I not find any reason to keep Sunday holy (aside from Pentecost on an annual basis), I found that much of what I had been taught while in mainstream Christianity wasn’t in there, either.
As I continued to study, a linearity of the scriptures began to jump off of the pages. From Genesis to Revelation, there is a continuity that isn’t broken. The goal is summed up in many different scriptures, but it is apparent to most folks. Faith. God simply wants to be believed. That faith is manifest outwardly as works. These works do not save, but I feel are the evidence of the fact that one is saved.
Looking back, I see the hand of God in my life at most of the critical junctures. Growing up in the city, all I ever aspired to do was to make enough money to get by and live close to the Pacific ocean. Getting married, becoming involved in the WORD, having kids, and moving to fly-over country were nowhere near my radar screen. Alas, this is what God had in store for me.
Besides this site, I attend and am involved in the most scripturally sound congregation on the planet. The Church of God, Kansas City is where I fellowship with some incredible folks. This church is completely volunteer based, takes no collection, and has very little doctrine (we’re talking less than a page). The folks who founded it wanted to let the LORD drive, and He is an incredible pilot. The church’s website is http://www.kccog.org.
Thank you for coming to my site. I hope you bookmark it and please feel free to drop me a line a chris@firstcenturychristianity.net if you have any suggestions for the site, prayer requests, or if you have something you would like to contribute. The door is always open.
May God Bless you,
Chris
